Greetings,
Dave Fahringer will be hosting a 5-speed Airhead Transmission Tech day at his place Saturday, Jan 20, 2024, 9:00 am till ??
Don Beverage will be leading the hands-on clinic where up to 4 transmissions will be gone through. There will be others very experienced in working on the 5-speed transmissions such as Trig attending to help as needed. Each trans will have a team of up to three Airheads working on it, the owner and two assistants. Typical work will be to install the up to date spring/shift roller kit, gaskets and seals, and check shimming.
For those bringing a 5-speed transmission it will be recommended that they contact Don at dbeverager69s@yahoo.com and he will advise what parts they should bring with, based on an assessment of their trans. Don will have some spares on hand. If larger repairs are discovered upon inspection Don will work with the owner outside of this tech day to get the job completed. It is recommended that those bringing a transmission have the following kit:
Cover gasket, Set of seals for their trans, Shift/spring kit, and any parts Don recommends.
There will be a $25 donation to cover incidental costs. Dave will do something for lunch, if any vegans or vegetarians will be attending please let us know so we can make special accommodations.
If this is something you are interested in attending please contact Jim Fousek at 630-960-3662, sidecar05@yahoo.com. Please e-mail, call or text.
Jim will acknowledge all emails and calls/texts. Please state if you have a 5-speed trans that you would like to go through or if you want to assist. A few weeks following the roll out of the announcement airheads will be contacted as to the clinic roster and who will be bringing transmissions to be gone through.
Attendance will be limited to 12 total attendees. Preference will be given to airheads that were unable to attend the previous clinics. This is a hands-on clinic where ~three attendees will be going through a transmission with Don overseeing the work. There will not be extra space for people to show up and observe. Attendees should plan to get their hands on the inside of a transmission and be part of the process. The usual disclaimers and warnings apply regarding working on our own motorcycles.
