Do you set ignition timing at 4-5K with the alpha ignition?

So get the revs up to 4k and then check to see if Z is in the lower part of the window with the timing light if not adjust the EI advanced or retarded accordingly?

The way I read Scot's replay is that the indicator line is UNDER the "Z". Therefore the "Z" will be in the top of the window when the line gets to the center of the window. If not, then, as you said, play with said bean can position until it is.

Owning an old Airhead is easy.
Keeping an old Airhead running great is the true test.

I would call Rick at Motorrad Electrik and ask him. there have been a number of different series of the alpha ignition. He stamps a number on them denoting when they were made. the mid age series (circa 2011 at least) had an external electronic advance and used the stock ignition module. The latest series has the advance built into Ricks own ignition module and different modules are used for single and dual plug bikes.

Rick is very busy and can be tough to get a hold of. keep trying.
