R90/6 '76 wiring harness replacement
Purchased a fantastic replacement main harness from Britts & Beemers. Working slowly through removal and re-installation of the main harness (burnt a brake light circuit that caused a big mess).
I'm taking careful notes as I pull wires out of the Connection Block. The Haynes manual circuit diagram is not even close, so it's kind of concerning that I'm taking apart my template (i.e., removing the old wiring).
Question
How do I confirm that the right wire goes to the right pin in the Connection Block? I can try to follow what was there. I can test that there's conductivity back through the correctly colored wires, but can anyone suggest a way to test with the multi meter at the block? I don't really know what's happening in the connection block itself (I think it just connects one side to the other or something). Of course it's a terrible rat's nest in the headlight bucket. Too many guys (myself included) have been monkeying around in there.
Looking for more process to do this correctly.
thanks!
The pins within the multi-colored connection block simply connect color to color. So if your new harness uses wire colors close to the original, then you simply plug that color wire anywhere on the connector block showing that color. For instance, Brown typically has 6 prongs. If you have a Brown wire to connect, then ANY or the posts in the Brown area are equivalent connection points.
About the only test you'll need to perform is using an Ohm meter between:
• Gray and Gray/Black to prove the fuse is making connection
• Green and Green/Black to prove the fuse is making connection
• Blue/White and Brown/Black (test and then reverse) to prove the diode is still working
Hope this helps.
Owning an old Airhead is easy.
Keeping an old Airhead running great is the true test.
A great Airhead Resourse, EME , "EuroMotoElectrics" has a nice laminated Wiring Diagram for your r90,
It's going well. Just finally removed the entire harness and started reinstalling.
