R75 Centerstand
My R75/7 was used with a sidecar for many years.
When I acquired it, it came with an old beat version, unmounted, and a nice, shiny new one. I bolted the new one up (after having to helicoil the mounts) but found an odd problem: I can find nowhere to attach the springs to the frame. Can someone please point me to that spot, hopefully with a picture?
Thanks!
John,
MAX parts fiche to the rescue, I hope.
Take a look at this web page. https://shop.maxbmw.com/fiche/DiagramsMain.aspx?vid=51657&rnd=09082020
It shows 2 styles of sidestands, perhaps original and current replacement. The part you seek is either #5 or #11. It pivots on the sidestand bolt and anchors the springs.

I don't know how I missed that!
I was thinking it should be a lug.
My remaining question is that the diagram only shows one. Shall I get two, one for either side?
And thanks!
John,
You will need two springs, but only one shackle. MAX implies that you only need one spring; that is not correct. Its not often that MAX gets it wrong.
And put a dab of grease on that shackle where it hits the sidestand bolt.

Thanks, I did get two springs.
Ok, now after a long process to get it running (which I'll spare you,) I am ready to get the center stand in action. I've followed the above link, but it appears the fiche parts numbers have been changed.
So, is the part I need 46 52 1 241 597 ?
Thanks!
The parts fiche on Max BMW will be updated to show the current part number offerings. Most of the time the new number describes a part that is the same for form, fit and function. However, there is no guarantee. It's simply that the substitute BMW PN is the only number you can presently order from Germany.
The older part is now obsolete and no longer available from BMW. However, there may be stocks of the older PN at other dealers across the country.
I ran into this recently on a 1981 fork stanchion. The diagram showed the part I needed, but BMW was only offering the more common 1983 fork stanchion part number... which not only did not look like the graphic, it did not work with the bottom valving parts in the parts fiche graphic.
Owning an old Airhead is easy.
Keeping an old Airhead running great is the true test.
