After several oil filter changes to various airheads I've wondered why someone hasn't made a chart of which bikes use what parts in the oil filter kit. Thanks to a discussion with my web pal Scot, I now know why ! Apparently BMW did it again. The pieces you use vary considerably based on how the oil canister was inserted at the factory in models 1977 and on. (The canister is the part the oil filter goes in which is embedded into the engine block.)

There is no way to tell which pieces you need except by taking a measurement (other than checking the condition of the old (white) "O" ring to confirm it has been compressed properly.) It also matters whether you have the canister with the sharp edge or rounded edge.
