New member working over an R65LS and looking for loan/rental of special tools. There is a vague reference on the website to a club benefit (?) involving a tool loan program. Curious how that works.

I'm located in Tulsa, OK

Contact your OK Airmarshal. That way you're dealing locally.

Pull down the "Contact Us" menu to the Airmarshal link.

Wish I could help you. In late 2021 I inquired on this forum about borrowing a transmission output flange tool. I did not get a response, however, somehow, I had a phone conversation with a club member who was trying to organize a loaner tool program. I can not remember who that was - but the idea was being worked on. However, that was under the previous administration, and the effort may have since been scuttled. He did not have the tool I needed in any case, so I wound up making my own.

@4949 Great. One of the reasons I joined is because the benefits included this blurb...

Airhead Tool Lending Library

Access to a resource to borrow a limited selection of small BMW Tools for the odd project.

Keep in mind that the club "administration" has not changed. The airmail editor was replaced. The editor was not in club leadership. So that is a bit of a red herring. Anyway. The tool loaner contact used to be listed in the Airmail. It was one the mid west Air marshals. I forget which one. it was (is) a volunteer labor of love. The tool collection consists of donated tool so it is a bit of hit and miss. The best bet would be to contact your air marshal to see if it is still active.

You could always start by telling us exactly which tools you're looking for.

I would be interested in this too (I'm in the DC metro area, but obviously shipping is an option).  Specifically, I need the tools to change the timing chain on an 86 R65, including the outer main (ball) bearing and potentially the crankshaft sprocket (tbd after inspection).  I believe this includes the timing case puller/pusher and the bearing/sprocket puller/pusher - basically the cycleworks set #2.
