'71 R75/5: Mysterious Hole

I found this hole just behind the timing cover seam. I don't want to poke too hard or mix up jbweld before checking with airheads to see if the hole has a purpose. The machine is a 75/5. Thank you.

I don't think that's a drilled hole, but rather a small casting flaw. The breather system already has a drilled hole between those 2 spaces. I'd fill it with JB Weld.
A model year might be helpful.

@wobbly Thank you for your input. The model year is 1971 r75/5.

A discovery regarding this mystery hole. It is a timing case cover tap drill break through from the front done during manufacture. Minor flaw, and certainly not a design feature so I will seal it.

Then it's really not doing anything harmful. The starter cavity is 'outside' and the screw hole (originating in the alternator compartment) could be considered 'outside'. So although there's a flaw, the leak is connecting 2 exterior surfaces and very little leakage will occur.
Good find !
