Metal bits where they should'nt be!
This is for a friend.... REALLY! Friend sez "Can you help be diagnose a 74' R75/6 that appears to be locked up. After a few peaks in the easy places we drained the oil. What little inky black stuff came out also had some metal bits (not sparkles, chunks) and thin paper/alum shaving-like impurities. Next we dropped the pan which then showed off lots of heavy metal. And not of the rock band type! So, the question to the experts... What are those rivet-like looking items??? There were at least 4, loose in bottom of the pan
That is not good. It might be time to start looking for a donor motor. I'd suggest that your friend start to disassemble the motor and have a look inside. That would also make it easier to extract from the frame. Based on your description, I think you guys are way past identifying the rivet like pieces.
