Hello all,

I’m replacing the front wheel on my 1978 R100/7 and, for the life of me, I can’t remember which side the spacer goes on.

Is it the left side (near the axle nut) or does it go on the right side?

I feel like an idiot, but I just don’t want to do it wrong.

Thanx!

From the parts diagram, it would appear that the spacer goes next to the threaded end of the axle. But the parts diagrams have been known to have errors, and I could be interpreting the drawing incorrectly, too. I'd try it first with the shoulder on the axle against the wheel bearing, then on the other side slide the spacer over the axle. If it doesn't look right, try the spacer on the other side.

BTW, are you sure about the year? The last R100/7 appears to have been made in 1977, but I guess maybe if it didn't make it out of the dealership until '78, that could explain the difference.

Fear not, if you try to put it on the right side, the fact that it’s wrong will become quickly apparent. It goes on the left with the axle nut.
