flashing high beam indicator
i've installed a kisan headlight modulator. works great. i notice the blue high beam indicator flashes with the headlight. this is somewhat distracting. short of disabling the indicator, is there a way around this situation?

► It all depends on where you physically install the unit in the circuit. If this is a unit you wire in, then you should have the modulator wired in right before the White wire goes to the rear of the HL bulb. The easiest way is to buy several male 1/4 inch spade lugs and a spare 3-prong HL socket.
• Unplug the OEM socket from the rear of the HL bulb
• Plug the male spade connectors into the 3 empty OEM socket positions
• Plug the accessory socket to the rear of the HL bulb
• Return (Brown) goes directly through, OEM socket to new socket
• Low Beam (Yell) goes directly through, OEM socket to new socket
• Hi Beam (White) goes into the modulator input. Modulator output goes to Hi Beam on the new socket.
In this way you have a sub-harness that can be moved from bike-to-bike, should you upgrade in the future.
► Since you want to be sure your Hi Beam is ON during the day, I found that adding a Blue LED (from Super Bright LEDs) to the Hi Beam indicator allows you to see the indicator during the day.
Hope this helps.

thank you. i did not mention the motorcycle is a r75/5. not sure if the wiring is the same, but i will test this out. i am sure others could benefit from your advice.
I have not worked on a /5 since 1972 or so, brother. Sorry, but I do not remember what type headlamp bulb they use. My response will work on /6 and later that all use the 3-prong H4 type bulb (same connector as an automotive sealed beam).
If your /5 has the multi-colored connector board inside of the headlamp shell, then you can also simply unplug the White wire going to the HL bulb and insert your modulator there using male and female 1/4" spade connectors to mate to the appropriate gender connectors.
My first response is exactly how I wired two different brand modulators on a 1979 /7 and a 1988 single-sided. I use the sub-harness approach becasue I've found that buyers won't pay extra for accessories, so it's best for me to simply remove them before a sale. The key to doing that is to not alter the BMW harness, so it can be re-connected in a stock configuration when that time comes.
