Got a 1984 R100RT in August and have been doing short shakedown runs. Started on a 150 mi. round trip and generator light was flickering and dimming intermittently. About 50 miles from home it came on bright and stayed that way. Pulled into the garage and checked battery voltage at 11.5. Just made it. Ordered a set of brushes.

Popped the cover tonight, after disconnecting battery of course WP_20171023_19_12_09_Pro[1].jpg WP_20171023_19_12_09_Pro[1].jpg, and YIKES! Time to check every connection. Fun day tomorrow.

Is that an after-market alternator stator, because the red wires sure aren't stock ! I'm just wondering if those stator wires have given trouble in the past and were replaced.

Time to check both the rectifier board and the regulator.

Good luck !

Owning an old Airhead is easy.
Keeping an old Airhead running great is the true test.
