I have a 1984 R80RT (just brought it home yesterday). This is my third BMW bike, but the first that has the exhaust tubes from heads to airbox, which I assume is an EGR system of some sort. My '84 R80GS didn't have them.

Is there a source available for plugs to replace the tube fittings in the heads, so I can eliminate this obnoxious contraption from an otherwise clean and simple engine?

Are there other recommended modifications to be done as part of removing the EGR plumbing? Jet changes? Plug the holes in the airbox, obviously, but what else?

A helpful member over at VBMWO forum pointed me in the right direction on this.

It is called the "Pulse Air System", and there is a very complete article on how it works and how to eliminate it over on the bmwmotorcycletech website: http://bmwmotorcycletech.info/pulseair.htm

I see you've got a couple of comprehensive threads to read through, but the short answer to your two questions are: cut the tubing and remove the nut, weld the nut closed and use it to cap the threaded port on the head. Secondly, the timing hole plugs work great to fill the hole in the air box.
