Down the rabbit hole
I love my airheads.
I'm not kidding - this hobby gets expensive and consumes a lot of time, but I've found nothing else as satisfying as riding a freshly maintained classic.
My most recent project started as a top-end re-seal and it's by no means over.
The push rod tubes were looking pretty nasty so I bought some shiny new stainless steel tubes.
Might as well lap the valves...
Time to lube the clutch splines (happy to see they're almost 100%!) and that turned into rear main/oil pump seal and some clutch components.
Since the transmission's out, might as well check the swing arm bearings.
Oh yeah: that final drive case is pretty disgusting. Let's address that leak.
Better check the final drive splines while I'm at it. (see attached - I'm going to have to rebuild that puppy soon so not following that rabbit hole just yet)
But how are those rear wheel bearings & seals?
That snowflake wheel is looking pretty nasty. Let's get that disc off and clean 'er up. Disc is pretty grooved...
Rear brake line still rubber - maybe original. Better order a stainless one.
- and a rear master cylinder reservoir to replace the leaky one as well.
Since the swing arm is hanging by the shocks, might as well check the u joints. (Putting that driveshaft boot back on is a booger! Even on the dual shocks.)
Time for a battery.
Are those forks leaking?
The frame could use some paint.
And so on.
Happy wrenching, folks
All part of the fun of classic bike ownership!
