Austin TX r100gs top end re-assembly assist
hi all,
greetings!
new airhead owner here and new wrench looking for an extra pair of eyebalsl as i prepare to re-assemble a top end.
i've got oak's manual, brook reams threads printed out, fleischer info printed out - and parts all on hand (just waiting on the heads to come back from ted porter) and think i have this pretty dialed in.
however, i'd gladly pass on a case of expensive german beer or drop a couple of bucks on an airhead willing to oversee the work so that things go together correctly.
i'm planning on getting out to various tech days and social meet and greets but not until i get the bike together properly.
alternatively anyone that knows this procedure inside and out that might be willing to field a phone call or two as i get this together would be great as well.
i'm finding it pays to lean on the individual and collective knowledge of the hedz rather than cowboying the bike together.
THANKS
jon

Just finished rebuilding the top end on one of my R90/6 yesterday. Had some good help from one of my airhead buds and it's nice to have an extra set of eyeballs. Oak's manual is excellent but I also found it extremely helpful to read Snowbum's treatise on valve reassembly. The Clymer manual also came in handy, as well as a quick call and question to Ted Porter who rebuilt the heads for me. If you have to go it alone, just take your time and don't get in a hurry. I was installing a Siebenrock 1000cc kit on the R90 and it went together very well. The critical part for me was getting the rockers blocks squared up. Suggest you read, re-read, and re-read again Oak's discussion of that part of the re-assembly. - Crunch
thanks man.
heads are with ted right now so if i have to i will be calling him to lean on him!
appreciate the good words.
