What are the pros and cons to registering my '74 R75/6 as an antique, a classic or as a piece of junk.....I meant to say ..... or as a modern motorcycle in Pa? People I've talked to said there's no problem with the antique plates such as after dark or out of state travel. Sounds too good to be true. The bureaucrats don't give anything away without it costing you in the long run. Any input coming from Pennsylvania experience will be sorely welcome.

I have never lived in PA so have not dealt with this question. Why not check with the DMV website? In Georgia, the only difference is about $85.00 to make the plate and then pay the same fees for standard plate and it can go only on a motorcycle manufactured to appear to be antique including machines over 25 years old.
If the law places restrictions on use of the machine I will bet a cop somewhere will know about it and it will cost you grief.

► In the state of GA you can get the "Historical Plate" (that's the equivalent of the Antique plate in PA and elsewhere) for free when you register a bike that's more than 20 years old. However, when you come back the following year to pay the tax, they add on $40 because it's a "custom plate", as if you had your initials on it or some such.

So find out what they do the second year.

► Many states now will allow you to re-register an older (same state) tag from the same year the vehicle was made. The catch here is that pre-1970 tags were usually steel, and due to corrosion can be hard to find. I found mine on Ebay. To me, this is a much more attractive way of advertising the age of your classic vehicle.

Owning an old Airhead is easy.
Keeping an old Airhead running great is the true test.
