I hope I can get an answer to this question.

I bought a 1989 R100GS last fall. I'm replacing push rod tube seals while sheltering in place. (A silver lining in this is all my pruning and yard chores are done so I can ride, ride, ride when things open up.)

I noticed the down tube from the steering head to the swing arm on the right side (starboard) is a half inch or more closer to the engine block compared to the left side (port). Is this normal? In other words should I be concerned the down tube has been bent (in an accident?) in toward the engine block?

While I am writing about the frame, is there (are there) fork suspension re-valving options for this bike to improve the front suspension. I see Touratech and perhaps others sell springs but I have not run across alternative valving. The front end seems pretty soft and not much rebound damping. Wondering if I should plan for fork service or a rework. Any advice/suggestions are welcome.

Stay well.

Best,

Jack

I believe other suspension vendors, like RaceTech, sell an insert canister that replaces all the stock hydraulic valving. Not sure if this is offered for the GS, but once you get the industry name for this type product from their page, a quick Google search may turn up others.

Hope this helps.
