1984 R100RT Clutch Slipping
Have been gradually fixing many little things on bike purchased 7 months ago with 131K on the clock. Finally got to dialing in carbs, new needles in third notch from top, 165 MJ, and synched. Smooth idle, shift is like butter. Decided to run it up. Got to 5500 rpm in 4th under full throttle acceleration and clutch started slipping.
Previous owner kept meticulous records. Spring broke in tranny at 90K and was rebuilt with new bearings and two gears. Clutch was in spec at that time. Now at 134K it slips.
Snowbum says new clutch material is not as grabby as the old asbestos and he advises putting in the stiffer old 90S diaphragm. How much more effort will this require at the lever? The original clutch material did last well over 100K miles. What have people done with long term success? Any other suggestions while I have it apart?
