Weepy shafts drive boot
Hi all, bought '79 R100S that required a top end rebuild, well done by a member, Greg Hutchinson, and it's been running great, but was cleaning up a very slow oil seep at the oil drain plug when I noticed a lot of grime around the boot the covers the transition area from the transmission to the shafts drive. It's leaking just at the tie down holding it in place. I need to have it looked at, no doubt, but my question, I was hoping to ride it down to Monterey for the rally festivities next weekend, doubt I can find any Mechanic that can repair between now and then, is it safe to ride it? Will I injure the drive train?
Thanks Scot, appreciate the help. I'll start with the clamp and see how it goes. I doubt I'll bring it down to Monterey though. I have another BMW, but it's my only Airhead and I was hoping to meet some members of this group and discuss some other things I'd like to improve on it. Greg did a good job with the restoration, but when I got it back his low back was hurting him and I couldn't throw any more work at him. Other than he, there aren't any more Airhead mechanics here in the Bay Area now that Dave Gardner has retired. I don't really know what to do, I hate to sell it in disrepair just because I can't find a mechanic but I think that's what's going to happen. Oh well, an '80 R100T was my first of 14 Beemers and I guess it's my last Airhead. Thanks again.
Well, you were right, just needed the right fastener. BMW Dick is going to take care of her for me from now on, so I can keep her! I hope to bring it this weekend to Monterey, if I chicken out and come on my R1200RS I'll check in anyway. Thanks for your help and support
