tires
any comments on bridgestone tire? going to set of spitfires anyone tried them?
I have Battleaxe BT-45's on my Mystic and love 'em.
I have another thread here on the same subject.
Bridgestone Spitfire S11 Touring Tires were recommended to me by a friend with 4 or 5 Airheads. He swears he gets 10,000 miles out of them on an Airhead. We're riding late 70's and early to mid-80's bikes. He recommends 100/90H19 for the front, and 110/90H18 as the largest you can squeeze by the rear drive splines fully inflated. 120/90H18 may be fitted, but requires trimming and an offset shim.
As of 6 Oct 2016 I've fitted a pair and the handling is excellent.
Bridgestone had a $50 rebate thing, good until the end of July 2016. It may come back around.
Hope this helps.

Keeping an old Airhead running great is the true test.
I have had the Spitfires on my R90/6 for over 10k miles, and been very pleased with them. Grip is excellent both dry and wet, and they have lasted well. Still have enough tread to finish this season, but I'll replace them next spring. The front does follow grooves a little though, but not enough to worry about.

Saw this morning where Chaparral Motor Sports has the Bridgestone S11 tires on sale, each seem to be roughly $10 off their already low prices. Chaparral has free shipping on orders over $100. That means a rear tire ships free, but the front needs to be combined with another item. The delivered price for a set of S11's was $176.
The Chaparral web page was also touting a $50 rebate on all Continental Tires for those who are interested. This seemed to be direct from Conti, and not a web site special.

I run the BT-45's on my R100R and they're great and the BT-16"s on my FZR-1000 very predictable and confidence inspiring.
Spitfire are no longer available for my models. That is upsetting, because I ran them for years and love them. 2 rears to 1 front; 13K plus on the rears easy. Excellent value for mileage and cost.
Currently running Michelin's and they are a little more expensive and after 12K they are done. I also have to do 1 rear to 1 front. But excellent tire.
Some Tires to consider that many like and have decent reviews :
Conti Conti Twins K112A rear, RB2 Front Once they have a few miles on them, you can almost pull them off with your hands. They last reasonably (5K on a rear, 7-8K on a front is not at all unusual, and they are not expensive. They give a really nice smooth ride, good grip in wet or dry, and look classic

Thanks Harry for those links.
I just bought the BT-45s for my 81RT. It has a set of Avon Roadriders on it when I bought it, they looked good from 3ft quick inspection, and I road them for maybe 100miles. But being the knucklehead I am sometimes, I just today actually got the flashlight out, on my knees and rotated the tires and LOOKED at the tires, OMG!!! The front is cracked between the treads, sidewalls look great, rear looks good no cracks but both were 2009 vintage, too old for my tastes.
Good Call,
The tires on my 76 R90/6 looked good too. Actually plenty of tread and no cracks anywhere. When I checked the date code the front was 11 years old and the Rear was 14. New Avon Road Runners and tubes were mounted and the new looking tires were tires disposed of. The PO apparently had not done much riding the last 15 years.
The new tires were a really cheap investment compared to risking a very expensive mistake.
Rear 110/90 BT-45H Sport touring tires are on sale at Motorcycle Superstore for $95 !!
