1992 R100RT Fuses?
Hi everybody! I was trouble shooting a problem with my right blinker. It was working then not and working and then not, so upon closer examination I found burned wires in the back blinker. Dead short. Melted the hot wire and took off the insulation on the brown ground wire! My question is. Is there a fuse for the turn signals? I know about the two 15 amp fuse box, but is there another place for other fuses?
Thanks for your responses!
I'm not a BMW expert, nor am I familiar with your model year, but some ideas come to mind you may find helpful...
• My 1979 has 2 fuses which are both 8A. You have two 15A fuses, and that sounds very high. You might want to check your owner's manual and double check the amperage rating on those fuses. Higher fuse ratings give less protection, not more.
• Bulbs can do funny things. I've seen bulbs with the short circuit inside the bulb. So if the blinker pod starts pulling a lot of current (allowed by the fuse), the melted wires you see could be the 'result' and not the 'cause'. Don't be too hasty in your assessments. Look for a tiny place where the insulation rubbed through on the supply lead.
• A conversion to LED blinker pod bulbs would use less power and possibly give you brighter indicators.
Hope this helps.
Owning an old Airhead is easy.
Keeping an old Airhead running great is the true test.
I have checked some parts fiches and for my year they are showing 15 amp fuses. It does get confusing. I have been investigating LED lighting and think I will go that route for sure. Thank you for your response.
