1983 R100RS clutch
I bought an after market clutch disk for my '83 RS. It's a riveted item that, while within the spec for overall thickness, the friction material is barely 1 mm proud of the rivet heads. Is this junk or should I install it?
Can't speak to airhead clutches, but my brand new oilhead one is exactly the same. If you got it from a reputable dealer, I'd use it.
Just to give closure here, I did install the friction disk. I'm completely satisfied with the result. The original clutch pack had not been serviced since the bike left the factory decades ago. When I opened things up I found I'd used too much lube on the trans/clutch splines over the years of maintenance. The friction material was partially contaminated by lube, making for some erratic engagements. Oddly enough, the disk thickness was still within spec after many years and over 100 k miles of service. Remarkable!
