1978 RS Left Handlebar Switch
Hi
I need to know if the left handlebar switch can be completely disassembled. I've removed the yellow on/off switch but that's as far as I get. If there is a tab or detent to release the remainder of the guts I can't see it and I don't want to force it.
I'm trying to have a look at the contacts because the top half of my high beam rocker switch will not turn on the high beam. The lower half of the high beam rocker switch will flash the high beam. I can't keep the high beam on unless I hold down the high beam flasher.
So my question is, can the switch be disassembled and repaired?
John
I agree with Scot. The switches will come apart, but they usually do so in a surprising manner.
If the sprays won't work, and no options are remaining, then take the switch completely off the bike and into your dining room. You'll want plenty of light, and a large white towel on the table top. The towel will help keep things from bouncing and getting lost, and the white color makes them easy to locate. This is important because if you loose even one piece, then you're buying a complete new switch.... which was the prime thing to avoid.
You may also need "jeweler's screwdrivers", heavy grease for holding springs in place, contact cleaner, a selection of needle nose pliers or jeweler's tweezers, a magnifier headband, some dental tools, small bowls to place small parts into, and other things of this sort.
Owning an old Airhead is easy.
Keeping an old Airhead running great is the true test.
