I have a really pieced together Airhead. It started as an '88RS and a good story to boot. The fairing is long gone, K-Bike front end, R75 2 digit carbs... and I lived on the bastard for a few years bumming around the country. Needless to say after couple hundred thousand miles, I burnt an exhaust valve on the left side which left us stranded at a rest stop outside Keokuk, IA. Gave Motorcycle Dave a call in Fort Dodge and I settled in for the night, hid behind the bushes and finished what beers I had on me and he picked me up the next morning.

I replaced the 1000CC top end with a questionable 750 top end and 3 out of 4 piston skirts and rode it like that for about a year. 2 up was a hoot especially going up hill.

This time last year I swapped out the motors and put in a big valve '81 number, oh yeah and obnoxious to boot with the straight pipes. Whitney and I rode out to the GS Giants shindig in Idaho and the first thing I did when we returned was put mufflers on the bastard. I lost a muffle in Oklahoma a few years back and did a quick fix at a muffler shop that told me not to tell anyone where I got those, ha! It could vary likely be the culprit behind the burnt valve.

So I have an '81 big mouth motor in an '88 frame and of course the mounts don't match on the sub frame until you give the pipes a good push. Ah, peace and quite and Whitney questioned if the thing was even running. Lo and behold the center stand doesn't jive with these pipes and hangs low, very low. It drags in turn and when you hit a bump we would get the most gnarliest of sounds of metal hitting pavement and bouncing off the pipes so I removed the center stand.

The center stand is such a nice feature and I really hate to go without, it makes tire changes and even oil changes a pain in the ass. Have to have a wall to get your lean on.

So my question to the community is, will a center stand from an pre-mono shock fit on a mono shock frame and tuck up where it needs to with these pipes? Any one have a center stand laying around I can pick up or trade for my mono shock stand? Maybe it's the pipes, I don't know. Regardless the bike scoots and that's what's truly important.

Cheers, H
