R80/7 gas cap gasket is growing

78 R0/7.
Seems the upper gasket sealing the gas cap has somehow increased in circumference and is now one or two dress sizes too big. Is this a common problem from fuel exposure? Its not like I'm spilling gas all over it though.
Fit great one day and not so much a few weeks later when I went to ride again.
Has anyone had luck with boiling off any contaminants to aid in shrinkage?

Never seen what you describe, but while investigating other gas cap trivia, it was discovered that a lot of the screw-on (VW and Audi) and twist-on (Toyota) fuel caps use the exact same o-ring seal !! Rather than spend time and effort spinning your wheels trying to discover "why", I highly suggest you simply buy a new seal.
Hope this helps.
