Oil Pan Hole
I'm trying to run down an oil leak and noticed a hole in the upper/center rear of the oil pan (R60/6) just below the gasket. Is this for ventilation and/or should it be sealed with some sort of breather plug/screw? or just left open? Thanks.
Some pans came with the facility to have an oil temp sensor installed. The hole needs to be plugged with a threaded plug of the same thread or a spare sensor.
An alternate way would be to remove the pan. Clean it thoroughly, first with detergent, then with alcohol. Fill the hole with JB Weld, or some similar industrial-grade filler epoxy, such as Devcon. I like to apply tape to one side of the pan, then with that surface horizontal, fill with epoxy from the other side. Let cure for 24 hours. Remove the tape and test. Reinstall with a new pan gasket. To keep from over-torqueing the pan bolts, I prefer a "10mm Nut Driver".
Hope this helps.

Keeping an old Airhead running great is the true test.
Thanks Richard, it helps greatly.
