master cylinder fluid level 78 R100/7
Re: 1978 R100/7 I have rebuilt my MC. In my owners manual I cannot determine how much new Dot 3 fluid to put in the reservoir. There are no min/max marks on it. Can anyone tell me how much I should have in it....half-full, etc?
Thank you, John

Ha! Trick question. Exactly NONE !!
BMW wants you to use only DOT4, which has a higher boiling point than DOT3.
I fill mine to the top of the rectangular section. Any lower and the warning light seems to blink a lot.
► Word to the wise: On models with the brake reservoir under the tank, you might also check the condition of your starter relay and its terminals. Brake fluid drips on the relay as the bike sits on its side stand. The corrosive nature of DOT3 and DOT4 eventually kills the starter relay function. There is rarely any warning, the system simply acts like a main fuse has blown. Under the tank is one of the last places most people check for this type failure.
Owning an old Airhead is easy.
Keeping an old Airhead running great is the true test.
Thank you.....will use the DOT 4....appreciate your help.
