Thanks for reading.

Recently purchased a 1978 R60/7 42k miles.

Despite good clutch adjustment (202mm gearbox to cable barrel & 2mm free play at lever), the clutch engages very near the end of travel (almost completely released). When it does engage it feels sudden and hard.

Is this a familiar symptom to anyone?

Any and all input/ ideas/ comments are greatly appreciated.

Take care,
-Marcus

Any idea when the gear box/clutch splines were lubed?

I have heard dry splines can cause similar symptoms.

If you don't want to pull the gear box, you could just move it back enough to get a toothbrush in there.

Hey there, thanks for the reply.
After digging through a google search, I found the same recommendation.
Also, I increased the free play in the clutch adjustment and that has helped.
Either way I don't think the transmission input splines have gotten attention in some time.
I'll clean and lube those regardless πŸ™‚
cheers,
