Cylinder Removal on R60/5 - Cylinders Stuck
Hi all,
I took the heads off my R60 and am trying to remove the cylinders as well. I can get them slightly loose but cannot get them off the bike. Any ideas?
I typically bump the cylinder left and right, up and down with a fat rubber mallet. This will break it free of the gaskets and sealant. It's OK to strike the fins this way because the thrust of the blow is going straight into the fin and they will not break. However, if you strike the cylinder in a direction that will work it up the studs, then you'll be striking the fin from the side and they will break off.
The broad, soft face of a fat rubber mallet means the force is spread over several fins, not just one, and that improves your chances.
Good luck.
