1982 R100RS Idiot lights intermittent
Turn on the key and no idiot lights. Wiggle wire cable at rear of instrument housing and lights come on. Have taken connections apart, cleaned with spray cleaner and used dialectic grease. Problem remains. One day could not get idiot lights to work and found out that bike does not charge without gen light working. Looking for hints on how to chase this down. Thanks for the help.

Dielectric grease won't help at all. It is by it's very nature an insulator. What you want is ointment that inhibits oxidation on the electrical contacts so that an excellent electrical connection is promoted. Such a paste is No-Ox by Sanchem.
Since those male pins on the instrument side are straight walled, you might also want to close the female socket ever so slightly to restore contact pressure. Then make sure the screw is the correct one so that the molded connector is being fully drawn together.
If your '82 model has the brake master cylinder under the tank you might want to spend some time cleaning those contacts too. Especially on the left side.

Wobblyy,
Finally a very nice spring like day here in central NY. Took things apart again, applied spray contact cleaner, slightly crimped the female plug ends and viola - idiot lights working once again. Will look for some No-Ox and reassemble. Quick look at auto store and found only diaelectric grease. Will look on line. Thanks for the advice
• Amazon has No-Ox for $13 in a container large enough to protect every vehicle you own. Smaller tubes are available.
• Corrosion wouldn't single out just one connector. The entire motorcycle gets the exact same dose of road salts, washing detergents, and other disagreeable contaminants. Once you get your No-Ox you'll want to make a habit of putting a dab on every electrical connection you disconnect or come in contact with. Slowly you'll notice that your lights are brighter and horn got louder.
All the best.
