Hello again. Bike had been running good now that the electric issue is sorted. I did replace the throttle cables, was running great, it had proper idle. The other day I got stranded when I hit reserve due to water in the tank (took care of that). I did put in new points in the field trying to get it running. I have the points tool, is set correctly. Now however, it idles at 2000 rpm. Is my timing too advanced? Also could be sticky atu, but that seemed to be working okay. I have to get a timing light, never done it before. Thanks in advance.

Some ideas...
• Check the throttle cables for slack at the twist grip. There needs to be at least 1/16" (1.5mm) in both.

• You may have knocked off an auto advance return spring when you did the points.

• Timing would also do it.

BTW, I cleaned and lubed the ATU and added new springs I had on hand. It was dusty and dirty. That fixed the high idle.

i set my idle to about 2k. it's easier on the timing chain, less jerky with the flywheel smoothing out the power pulses..
