I was looking at Ebay a few minutes ago and I saw an airhead cluster, but the description said this: R60/6: 1975 & 1976

R60/6
**Fits R60/6 models made after 09/1974**

R75/7: 1977
**Fits R75/7 models made up to 09/1977**

I have a 74 R60/6 and the pictures of the cluster makes it sure seem like it would fit my bike nicely...is there a pinout difference?

(for the curious here is the eBay item number:265718542123)

you should be more concerned with getting the correct ratio, the speedo and the rear drive are paired ,   im guessing you have a 37/11 rear drive?  there is a corresponding speedo head for that drive.  Snow bum has a chart online, also note that 74 to 76 pods had cable drive tachs, 77 up are electric tachs .  ask the seller questions, many don't really know what they are selling .

Thanks...I didn't think about the ratio, and yes it is 37/11...the listing show mechanic tach...

So...is there a difference in the pods between 74, 75 and 76 pods? (other than potential ratio with the speedo)

Additionally, at some point in the 70's (/5 to /6 ??) they converted from cable driven tach to an electronic tach. The electronic tach can be used on any Airhead twin (it only requires the addition of 1 wire), but obviously you need a cable drive to power a cable driven tachometer instrument head.

Owning an old Airhead is easy.
Keeping an old Airhead running great is the true test.

James:

I'm pretty sure the pinout is the same between 74 and 75-to-77 (the electronic tach was introduced with the 78 model-year, which also had green numbers in the instruments, rather than white).

As far as I know, the only thing specific to the 1974 (first year) instruments are white squares on the speedometer dial (visible on this image plucked out of the internet: https://tinyurl.com/2mtxmcs5 ). Later model-years did not.
