May's cover photo has a nice monza Blue /5 with a bikini fairing and screen on it. Can anyone tell me who makes that fairing and screen?

You can't see much of it in that picture, but it looks like an Emgo fairing I had on a /5 several years ago. Note how it does not interfere with the placement of the turn signal. I can assure you that the expense of getting it paint matched and pinstriped was much more costly than the fairing itself.

Thanks, I'm not up on the aftermarket brands for these old bikes. It goes without saying on paint and striping costs. Gotta start somewhere...

I bought the one I had used at a swap meet maybe 15 or 20 years ago. At the time, I might have seen a similar fairing in the J.C.Whitney catalog.

HI

It's Brian here , the owner of the bike on the cover of the May Issue. Yes It's a JC Witney, Emco Faring, good eye you James. I bought it used off the MOA flea market years ago for $75 bucks all painted, striped, and delivered. I liked it so much I ordered a second one from JC Whitney for my green toaster. Cost $50 bucks. The side of the faring is a straight line and I cut a curve to make it look more fluid or stylish. Used a jigsaw and sandpaper and the curved look makes it go faster haha. I did have to paint it, and the green paint, clear coat, hardener and thiner cost over $200 dollars back in 2005 ish. Had a friend stripe it for $75. So yes it was expensive to paint. I forget if the BMW S faring would fit a /5. Something about the size of the headlight and cost of the S faring made me decide on the Emco. I also have a Wixom Ranger that I painted and striped for the cooler weather. A couple of bolts to switch from winter to summer faring is so nice. Although It's not OEM BMW It works and looks fine to me, and can come off with 2 bolts to get back to stock.
