Looking for advice: I plan to install Clearwater Glendina's on my '81 R800G/S (crash bars). They don't have a dimmer but connect to the high/low switch which means they're ON when I start the bike. Maybe I am paranoid but I would like to have a them OFF on ignition.
What is a good (and not obtrusive) waterproof switch for mounting on the handle bars so I can turn power off until after I am started?
PS - I'll have an expert electrical guy do the install...
TIA

Never owned a GS so I can't help much, but here goes....

> Surprised the lighting "kit" does not come with a switch. Amazon offers several handlebar waterproof switches, such as THIS ONE. Measure the current draw first to make sure the switch is sized appropriately.

> I would highly recommend running the lights off their own circuit from the GREEN or GRAY wires on the back of the ignition switch. In this way the lights turn OFF with the ignition key. If there is not an empty terminal, then there several types of crimp connectors that add an extra lug, like THIS ONE.

> Also recommend that the lights have their own fuse. Measure the current draw, and double it to find the correct fuse amperage. Don't think a relay is necessary due to the fact that the new lights are LED and won't draw much current (probably less than 4A). The fuse holder itself needs to be waterproof, and the only ones I know of are the Bussman "flat pack" type with the hood. These (shown below) are easy to find at your LAPS.

Owning an old Airhead is easy.
Keeping an old Airhead running great is the true test.
