The First Annual Airheads Beemer Club Airhead Resurrection Build
The Airheads Beemer Club will be living and demonstrating the canons of our club through a public build and resurrection project at the MOA and RA National Rallies this year.
For the first time, the club will sponsor and facilitate a build project. Through the generous donation from Oregon Airheads members, the club has acquired a 1971 R60/5 that has great potential but is in desperate need of what the Airheads are so good at – breathing new life into classic Beemers. True to form for the Airheads, this will not be a 100 point concourse restoration, but a Build-a-Daily-Rider project which would be a great start for a first time Airhead owner.
A motto for our club is “Preserving The Legendary Motorcycles of Germany”
Here's The Plan:
At the MOA National in Redmond, The AirCentral Tent and in the Airhead workshops throughout the rally, the members in attendance will stage the bike for the build and in the course of the 3 days at the rally take this bike from its current state – a semi abandoned basket case to a viable runner.
Between the MOA National (Redmond Oregon – June 2024) and the RA National (Fryeburg Maine – September 2014), additional work will be done at tech days across the country as it is transported from Oregon to Maine where the auction winner and results will be announced.
1971 R60/5
Here's How It Works:
Purpose and beneficiary of this event – The Airhead Basket Case Build is a benefit fundraiser for the Airheads Beemer Club, the net proceeds of the auction will be split 50/50 to fund seed money for a similar build project for 2025 and a scholarship for a mechanic student or Jr airhead mechanic to help them buy tools and support their education on Airhead repair and maintenance. The subsequent 2025 project will be a special build to engage the youth of the future Motorrad world teaching them the art, craft and skills of repairing, maintaining and love for riding these classic bikes. The seed money from the auction proceeds will go to purchasing a bike candidate for the project and the parts needed to resurrect it. We hope to make this an annual event with a tweak to the build theme each year.
The scholarship winner will be selected by the Board from a list of nominees and applicants collected from members following the completion of the auction and awarded in May of 2025 prior to the MOA National. Along with the announcement of the 2025 Basket Case Build project. The funds awarded will be part cash, part gift certificates for purchases from our Airmail Advertisers such and EME and Boxer-2Valve.
So, come see the build project in action at the MOA National in the Airheads Beemer Club AirCentral tent and at the tech sessions.
Dates and locations of the Tech Day builds will be announced through the Airmail and on the website events calendar as they are firmed up. There are many ways you can get involved in this special event from working the bike at the Rally, to hosting it at a Tech Day and helping with the relay transports from Oregon to Maine. Reach out to the Board (bod@airheads.org) with questions and suggestions.
The Auction will be hosted online on the non-profit platform Zeffy – < Auction Link will be provided soon >. In addition to bidding on the bike, you will be able to make a direct donation to the Airhead Beemer Club Annual Basket Case Build and Scholarship Fund – use this pay-link if you wish to contribute to this fund, please indicate the year in your donation payment notes.
No Funds from the Operating budget of the Airheads Beemer Club, INC will be used for this project.
