Greetings,
Dave Fahringer will be hosting a Airhead Carb Clinic/Tech day at his place Saturday, Oct 12, 2024,
9:00 am till ??
A team of Airheads will be leading the hands-on clinic where airhead Bing carbs will be cleaned and
rebuilt. All carbs will be disassembled, ultrasonic cleaned and rebuilt with new parts as provided by
the carb owners. There will not be spares available, so it is highly recommended that if you sign-up
and are going to work on your carbs at the clinic you remove them from the motorcycle,
clean/degrease the exterior and bring them to the clinic. If you ride the motorcycle to the clinic and
there are problems with the carbs that cannot be fixed you will be stranded. This is a great
opportunity to rebuild your carbs to like new condition under the watchful eyes of Airheads very
familiar with the workings of Bing CV, /2 carbs. Those interested but with carbs in good working order
are welcome to attend and assist where possible.
The limiting factor governing the number of carbs that can be rebuilt is the availability of ultrasonic
cleaners. In a normal day one cleaner can process 2 – 3 sets of carbs. At this point we have four
ultrasonic cleaners committed to be at the clinic. (Dave F, Jim F, Zack W, & Don B)
Those that are interested in rebuilding a set of Bing carbs should contact Jim Fousek at
sidecar05@yahoo.com or 630-960-3662. All responses will be acknowledged. There will be a wait list
if the clinic is over subscribed.
For those bringing a set of cards you will need to bring all the parts necessary to rebuild them. This
includes all o-rings, jets, diaphrams, gaskets, floats and needles, throttle plate screws, etc. Contact
Jim to help sort out what supplies you will want to have on hand. Numerous suppliers provide all-
inclusive kits for rebuilding a set of carbs. For those rebuilding a set of carbs, a donation of $25 will
cover the costs of cleaning solution, spray carb cleaner, shop towels, etc. This will be collected via
the standard honor system, collection can placed by the food at lunch. Dave will do something for
lunch, if any vegans or vegetarians will be attending please let us know so we can make
special accommodations.
If this is something you are interested in attending and would like to bring your carbs please contact
Jim Fousek at 630-960-3662, sidecar05@yahoo.com. Please e-mail, call or text.
Jim will acknowledge all emails and calls/texts. Please state if you have a set of carbs that you would
like to go through. A few weeks following the roll out of the announcement airheads will be contacted
as to the clinic roster and who will be bringing carbs to be gone through.
There will be extra space for people to show up and observe/help. A great way to become familiar
with the inner working of our beloved airheads. The usual disclaimers and warnings apply regarding
working on our own motorcycles.
